Compared with the wave plate, the rotator has the inherent advantage of independent rotation around its own optical axis. It does not need to be adjusted, it only needs to be installed to normal incident radiation. Polarizing plane rotators are usually used for specific wavelengths. It is only a little dependent on the ambient temperature.
Quartz polarizers are made of quartz crystals. Quartz crystal has natural optical rotation, so it can be used to rotate the polarization direction of linear polarized light, and does not change the characteristics of line polarized light. The polarization surface of the beam is rotated to a proper angle by using circular birefringence effect. The rotation angle is related to the thickness of the crystal. There are two options for the rotation direction, i.e. left rotation and right rotation.
